The NFL has fined Bears receiver Brandon Marshall $10,500 for wearing green shoes on the field last Sunday against the Giants.

Marshall tweeted a photo of the letter he received from the NFL regarding his uniform violation and fine with the message:

"Football is my platform not my purpose. This fine is nothing compared to the conversation started & awareness raised."

Marshall, who revealed he has been treated for a borderline personality disorder, wore the green shoes to promote Mental Health Awareness Week.

Marshall anticipated being fined but wanted to bring more attention to the cause. He also said he would match any fine with a donation to his foundation that focuses on mental health awareness. He auctioned off the game-worn green shoes for $3,601 that went to his foundation. https://twitter.com/BMarshall/status/390429828232400896
