Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said that undrafted third-string quarterback Case Keenum will start this weekend against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

Kubiak gave the nod to Keenum over starter Matt Schaub and his backup T.J. Yates. Schaub has been ruled out for Week 7 because of an ankle injury.

Keenum, 25, has never attempted an NFL pass, as he and Yates split the practice reps this week to prepare both for the Chiefs.

“I didn’t hesitate because I felt like we needed a spark,” Kubiak said.

Houston quarterbacks have thrown an interception that was run back for a touchdown in five consecutive games, which is an NFL record.
