Report: 49ers LB Aldon Smith surrenders to cops, posts bail

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith turned himself into the authorities Tuesday night and posted bail after being charged with possessing illegal assault weapons earlier this month, Tony Kovaleski and David Paredes of NBC Bay Area report.

According to the report, Smith posted a bail of $75,000.

Smith, who has missed five games this season, faces a court date for the felony weapons charges on Nov. 12 and is scheduled be in court Nov. 19 to face misdemeanor DUI and drug charges.

He was charged with possessing illegal weapons after a party in June 2012 in which cops found assault rifles, magazines and ammunition. Smith was stabbed at the party and two others were shot.

Smith has been away from the 49ers after he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana on Sept. 20.

Smith has 4.5 sacks and 18 tackles in three games this season.
