Aldon Smith visits Niners at headquarters, 'day-to-day' according to Jim Harbaugh

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith visited the team at their headquarters on Wednesday and head coach Jim Harbaugh said he's treating his absence as "day-to-day."

Harbaugh appeared on The Game’s “Bucher and Towny” radio show Wednesday to further discuss the status of Smith, who took a voluntary leave of absence from the team on Sept. 23, a day before his birthday.

Earlier in October, the 24-year-old turned himself in to authorities and was charged with possession of illegal assault weapons. His next court date is Nov. 12 and then he will appear back in court approximately a week later to address separate DUI and drug charges.

Harbaugh said on the radio show that Smith looks great and it was nice to see the reaction from players when he visited the team's facility on Wednesday, via Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area:

“Aldon was in the building. It was great to see the reaction of others who saw him and Aldon’s reaction of being back here with some of the guys. He looks great, and we’re having a good day...I think the prudent thing to do is look at it day-to-day and have a goal of having a great day. He’s been taking that approach, really over the last five weeks. And it’s served him well and he’s made quite a bit of progress.”

According to Maiocco, Smith could join the team as early as Monday and possibly play as early as Nov. 10 against the Carolina Panthers. He has missed the past five games and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said his voluntary absence would be taken into account when considering any league discipline.

In the meantime, the Niners continue to pay Smith his $98,978 weekly salary. A source told Maiocco that the league is prepared to fine Smith at least two weeks without pay.

The Niners are currently on their bye week and are mandated to take four days off.
