Florida Atlantic athletic director Pat Chun told CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler that the school learned about "other violations of university rules" with former head coach Carl Pelini in light of his resignation over illegal drug use.

Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis resigned Wednesday and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brian Wright was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

"Once people came forward, once we had facts, what I went to Carl and Pete with were facts," Chun said.

Pelini went 5-15 in his two seasons with FAU, and Chun told Fowler that he would’ve hoped to handle things the same if his coach went 20-0.

"I apologize for exercising poor judgment," Pelini said in a statement. "My greatest concerns at this time are for my family, the dedicated FAU players and my staff. I am confident that Pat Chun and the University administration will continue to move the program forward."'
Florida Atlantic (2-6, 1-4 Conference USA) plays Tulane (6-2, 4-0) on Saturday.
