The Detroit Tigers are expected to hire Brad Ausmus as their manager on Sunday, according to Adam Spolane of Houston's SportsRadio 610and Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Ausmus has been a hot managerial prospect since the regular season ended, and was believed to be the lead candidate for the Chicago Cubs after interviewing with the team on Friday. The Tigers' job opened up after long-time manager Jim Leyland stepped down following the Tigers' ALCS loss to the Red Sox.

The job will be Ausmus' first as a major league manager after an 18-year career as a catcher that included two stints with Detroit.
