West Virginia Athletic Director Oliver Luck has started the interview process for the Texas athletic director position, The Dallas Morning News' Chuck Carlton reported.
According to the report, a decision on hiring Luck could come this week, but it's more likely to happen after West Virginia takes on Texas next weekend.
Reports have pegged Luck as the overwhelming favorite to replace longtime Longhorns Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds, who announced his impending retirement last month after 32 years at the position. Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com reported last week that the announcement would come by the end of November.
On Oct. 16, Luck was announced as one of 13 members of the College Football Playoff selection committee. On a teleconference with reporters that day, Luck declined to comment when asked about the Texas athletic director position.
Two other athletic directors — Arizona State’s Steve Patterson and Arkansas’ Jeff Long — are also expected to interview for the job, according to The Dallas Morning News. Still, Luck is considered Texas' "1 and 1A" choice, according to the report.
