The Broncos named Jack Del Rio as interim head coach Monday morning.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post previously reported the Broncos were leaning toward Del Rio.

Del Rio, the team's defensive coordinator, takes over as the interim replacement for head coach John Fox, who will have heart valve replacement surgery this week in Charlotte, N.C.

KING: Broncos moving on with a missing piece

Fox felt light-headed on a local golf course and was hospitalized, at which time the decision was made to go forward with the procedure. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Del Rio was the Jaguars’ head coach from 2003 through ’11. He amassed a 69-73 record in Jacksonville and led the Jaguars to playoffs twice as a wild card team.
