John Fox, who had heart valve surgery on Monday, was released from a Charlotte area hospital on Friday.

“My recovery is progressing well — I am feeling better and getting stronger each day," Fox said in a statement released by the team. "I will begin the next phase of my recovery in Charlotte and continue outpatient appointments with doctors, who will clear me to return to Denver when the time is right. Although I’m eager to return to coaching, my No. 1 focus is my health. I believe in our players and have full confidence in [interim head coach] Jack Del Rio and our staff."

Coming off their bye week, the Broncos (7-1) will play in San Diego on Sunday. It's a trip Fox would have liked to have made, as he's a San Diego State alum.

"Keep my mojo going in San Diego," NFL.com reported Fox sent as a message to his team.
