The Boston Red Sox have entered into "serious dialogue" with free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran, according to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald.

Beltran hit .296 with 24 homers and drove in 84 runs for the St. Louis Cardinals last season.

He has reportedly been seeking a three-year deal and will be 37 when the season starts next year.

Beltran, an eight-time All-Star, averaged .288, 26 homers, and 88 RBI in the past three seasons.

The Cardinals made a $14.1 million qualifying offer to Beltran earlier this month, which Beltran rejected. If a team than other than the Cardinals sign him, the team would have to give up a draft pick.
