A rumor involving Ryan Braun being traded to the Mets for Ike Davis that surfaced on metsblog.com is false, according to Brewers general manager Doug Melvin.

"We have no intentions of trading Ryan," Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "There's absolutely no truth to that. We've never contacted any team about Ryan."

Melvin acknowledged that he had "four or five clubs" inquire about Braun's availability at the general managers' meetings in Orlando and that the Mets may have been one of them, but he "told them no."

Braun is owed $127 million over the next seven years and just served a 65-game suspension for his performance-enhancing-drug connection to the Biogenesis clinic.

Braun, who turned 30 on Sunday, hit .298 with nine homers and 38 RBIs in 61 games this season. He is a career .312 hitter with 211 homers in seven seasons.

Melvin, Braun, manager Ron Roenicke and principal owner Mark Attanasio had lunch last weekend in Los Angeles and spoke about the possibility of Braun moving from left to right field to give prospect Khris Davis more playing time.
