The NFL fined New England Patriots offensive tackle Marcus Cannon $15,750 for unnecessary roughness for his leg whip of Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson, the league announced.

The leg whip occurred in the third quarter of the Panthers' 24-20 victory over the Patriots on Monday night. Johnson got through Cannon's block on a run play and Cannon fell down. He then swung his left leg and hit Johnson in the right knee. Cannon was not penalized on the play.

Cannon apologized to Johnson for the incident.
