Reports: Yankees nearing five-year, $85 million deal with Brian McCann

Catcher Brian McCann entered free agency as one of the market's top targets. He is close to signing with the Yankees according to multiple reports Saturday.

UPDATE: Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports the deal is done pending a physical.

Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports McCann -- according to two major league sources -- is not signing with the Rangers. Why? Another source said McCann is on the verge of agreeing to a long-term deal with the Yankees.

McCann’s agent, BB Abbott, told Grant he could not confirm that his client had agreed to terms with any team.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal followed Grant's tweet with one of his own reporting that a source told him the Yankees remain in "serious" discussions with McCann, but that the two parties were not yet close on a deal.

Rosenthal soon followed with a tweet that the Yankees and McCann were close to agreeing on a five-year deal worth more than $80 million. He updated that that with McCann considering five years for $85 million plus a sixth-year vesting option.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports McCann's deal will include a full no-trade clause.
