Maryland assistant coach Dalonte Hill resigns one month after third DUI

Dalonte Hill, who last month was arrested for driving under the influence for the third time since 2008, has resigned as an assistant on head coach Mark Turgeon's staff at Maryland, a source told Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post Wednesday morning.
Hill will be replaced on the staff by director of basketball operations Dustin Clark, who took Hill's place when he took a leave of absence last month. Former Maryland great Juan Dixon, the program's all-time leading scorer and 2002 Final Four MVP, is expected to join the staff as a special assistant.

Hill, 34, worked six seasons at Kansas State, where he was the nation's highest paid assistant, and helped recruit Michael Beasley, among others, before joining Turgeon's staff in 2011.
In January 2012, after his second DUI arrest, Hill was suspended two games.
And just last month, Hill was arrested again.
“We will support him through this process,” Turgeon said in a statement at the time of Hill's third arrest. “We want him to focus on his personal life. Basketball is secondary at this point. His primary focus needs to be on his health and well-being.”
Hill's resignation allows Maryland to avoid paying him severance. Last year, Hill made $302,000 in base salary and extras, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post through an open-records request.
