New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith said Monday that he will start the Week 14 game against the Oakland Raiders, despite being benched during Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, reports Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Smith was benched at halftime after completing four passes for 29 yards and an interception. Smith has not thrown a touchdown pass in five weeks, and fans cheered when backup Matt Simms came on in relief in the third quarter.

Simms did no better in the 23-3 loss, going 9-for-18 for 79 yards with one interception and was sacked three times.

"If it was a tactic to wake me up or get me going, it definitely worked," Smith said Monday of his benching.

Smith has the worst passer rating in the NFL but is getting the nod for a team that has lost three straight games but still finds itself in the thick of the AFC playoff race.
