Mike Tomlin shocked that his sideline 'blunder' perceived as intentional

At his Tuesday press conference, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin continued to deny that he intentionally stepped on to the field and into the path of Ravens returner Jacoby Jones, but did admit it was a mistake for which he'll likely be disciplined.

Tomlin said it was "shocking" that his mistake was being perceived as intentional, but called the incident "embarrassing, inexcusable, illegal" and "a blunder."

Tomlin, with his back to the play, moved out of the way, but not before Jones slowed his stride. He eventually was tackled from behind after a 73-yard return on Thanksgiving night.

The Ravens have provided a new twist to the scandal: a field-level video that shows Tomlin stepping closer to the field as Jones sprinted his direction. Audio accompanying the angle reveal Jones adamantly telling Ravens teammates he was obstructed by Tomlin.

Tomlin was not penalized on the play, though an official had to run around him on the sideline to keep up with Jones.

BEDARD: Why are NFL referees so inconsistent?

On Monday, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports quoted a text from Tomlin: "If anybody thinks I or anybody else would do this on purpose they are crazy."

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Tomlin and the Steelers could face fines and possibly lose a draft pick in the wake of the incident, according to league sources.
