Colts' Trent Richardson: It's 'only fair' I was benched for Donald Brown

Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson was benched last weekend, a culmination of his struggles since the Cleveland Browns traded him to Indianapolis in September.

And he knows that he only has himself to blame for losing his starting position to Donald Brown.

"I think it's only fair that Donald is the starter, especially the production he's been putting up and the numbers," Richardson said. "He's been playing good ball. I tell people all the time that when I first got here, they thought it was a two-headed monster with me and Ahmad [Bradshaw]. I always said it was a three-headed monster."

Richardson has struggled mightily since the Colts gave up their 2014 first-round pick for him, hoping he could provide the offensive spark that would carry them deep into the playoffs. In his 10 games with the Colts, Richardson is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry. There hasn't been a single game in which he has rushed for more than 60 yards.

Brown, the Colts' 2009 first-round pick, has flourished this season, averaging almost double Richardson's production at 5.3 yards per carry. He also has four rushing touchdowns.

The Colts, who have a three-game lead in the AFC South at 8-4, are heading to Cincinnati this Sunday to take on the Bengals.
