Cornerback Brandon Browner of the Seattle Seahawks has turned down an offer by the NFL to reduce his year long suspension, electing instead to continue with his appeal, according to Mike Garafalo of Fox Sports.

Sources say Browner passed up an offer to reduce his year long ban to just three months beginning immediately, which would allow him to be reinstated in the early weeks of the 2014 season. The player contends that the sample collector did not follow the agreed protocols because he switched the urine sample from a damaged cup into a second receptacle.

The 2011 Pro-Bowler allegedly failed a test for performance enhancing drugs and was given a year long, 'stage 3' suspension by the league, because he had previously failed to take the necessary drug tests. However, in 2006 and 2007, when Browner missed the tests, he was playing in the Canadian Football League, not the NFL.

Browner is allowed to continue playing during the appeals process, but has been sidelined with a groin injury since the Seahawks' week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason.
