The University of Texas Board of Regents voted 6-3 in a vote of confidence in Bill Powers continuing as the school's president Thursday afternoon.

Powers' future as the school's president has been considered a factor in football coach Mack Brown's immediate future. Powers, considered a supporter of Brown, has clashed with Gov. Rick Perry,  a former Texas A&M yell leader, who has appointed several regents intent on ousting the president.

Brown, Powers and athletic director Steve Patterson have denied reports that Brown would resign this week.

Brown said at a Thursday Alamo Bowl press conference that he plans to meet with Powers and Patterson to discuss the future of Texas football soon.

"My situation has not changed," Brown said. "I've got the best president in the country in Bill Powers. What we did lose was an iconic athletic director (DeLoss Dodds). We've hired what I think is a great athletic director in Steve Patterson. Any time we have AD changes, it changes the game.

"I need to sit down with him and Bill in the near future to figure out where the program's going, all get on the same page and move forward."

Alabama's Nick Saban and San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh headline a list of high-profile candidates linked to the Texas job.
