Cristiano Ronaldo is most-followed athlete on Twitter

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has more than 23 million followers on Twitter, giving him the most-followed athlete account in the world, according to Twitter's year-end review published Thursday.

Ronaldo's has nearly six million more followers than fellow soccer star Kaka. (LeBron James is third with nearly 11 million followers.)

Two of the top six retweeted sports tweets of the year came from Ronaldo (No. 1 and 6, which can be seen below). The second-most retweeted came after Andy Murray won Wimbledon.

The top sports trend was #NFL, followed by #MarchMadness and Lance Armstrong.

Among those who joined Twitter in 2013 were Joe Montana, Hank Aaron, Phil Jackson and Roger Federer.
