Mack Brown met with University of Texas president Bill Powers and athletic director Steve Patterson on Friday afternoon to discuss his future with the team, according to Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News.

While the outcome of the meeting is not known, Patterson did say in his speech at Friday night's Longhorns football banquet that he hopes that he and Brown can "work together for many years to come", according to SBNation's Wescott Eberts.  Neither he nor Brown indicated whether Brown would remain the head coach next season in their speeches.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy is reporting that Brown had originally intended to step down at the end of the season.

However, Brown was "enraged" when the news leaked to the media, and he decided to change course, according to the source.
