Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will be out for a month with a thigh injury, manager David Moyes announced on Friday.

The 30-year-old was injured while taking a corner kick that led to the only goal in United's Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

"That is a big blow to us," Moyes said. "It is unfortunate, because I think if you look at our record with Wayne Rooney and Robin in the team it is actually very good, and we have not had them for quite a period recently."

Van Persie has battled toe and groin problems this season and only last weekend returned from a month-long absence.

After scoring 26 goals and leading United to the Premier League title last season, van Persie has seven Premier League goals this year.

But United is only in ninth place with 22 points. The club is 9-3-4 this season with van Persie in the lineup and 4-2-2 without him.
