Reggie Bush: Career has been 'good but not great'

Reggie Bush was an electrifying player at USC, and his 2,218 yards from scrimmage and 18 touchdowns en route to the 2005 Heisman Trophy gave him one of the best college football seasons ever.

But as Bush's eighth NFL season draws close to an end, the 28-year-old has some regrets.

“I don’t feel like I’ve met all the expectations,” the No. 2 pick in the 2006 draft said on Jim Rome on Showtime. “Nobody sets higher standards for myself than me. When I was coming out of college, I thought I’d be winning Super Bowls every year, I’d be in the Pro Bowl every year, competing for MVPs every year. It’s been a very humbling experience since the day I set foot in the NFL.”

Bush did win a Super Bowl with the Saints in 2010, but he's never made the Pro Bowl.

He's rushed for more than 1,000 yards in a season only once in his career — 1,086 for the Dolphins in 2011 — and has scored 53 career touchdowns (32 rushing, 17 receiving, four returns).

But Bush, who missed last week's game with a calf injury, is on pace for another 1,000-yard season this year (if he's able to play against the Ravens on Monday night), and has been a key cog in the Lions' offense.

“I still feel like I have a lot left to give this game and we’re still hacking away,” Bush said. “But I would say my career has been OK. It’s been good but not great. I feel like there’s a lot left in me to give this game, so I look forward to the years to come and I’m going to ride this thing until the wheels come off.”

Detroit and Chicago are tied atop the NFC North at 7-6, but the Lions hold the tiebreaker based on their season sweep.
