An ankle infection kept Dexter McCluster out of practice Thursday and Friday, but he does not have MRSA, the Chiefs confirmed to Kevin Patra of NFL.com on Saturday.

Still, the wide receiver has been downgraded from questionable to out for Kansas City's game in Oakland on Sunday. He didn't travel with the team.

An MRI ruled out structural damage to the ankle, and the team was waiting for cultures to come back before determining whether McCluster had MRSA, a type of staph infection that was in the Buccaneers' locker room this season.

He sustained the cut in muddy, snowy weather in Washington last week.

The 25-year-old has 46 catches for 438 yards and a touchdown this season, and 54 punt returns for 631 yards and two touchdowns, including a 74-yarder in a blowout win over the Redskins last week.

The Chiefs (10-3) are one game behind Denver for first place in the AFC West, although the Broncos hold the tiebreaker based on their season sweep.
