Mariners finalizing 1-year deal with outfielder Franklin Gutierrez

The Mariners are close to wrapping up a one-year deal to bring back outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports 1.

The deal is worth $1 million, and Gutierrez can earn up to $2 million more in incentives, according to ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas.

Gutierrez, 30, has played the last five years with Seattle. He is a career .256 hitter with 67 home runs, 279 RBIs and 77 steals, but staying on the field has been an issue, as he hasn't played more than 92 games in a season since 2010.

He had a serious stomach illness and oblique strain in 2011, a pectoral strain and concussion in 2012 and a hamstring strain last year.

The Mariners declined a $7.5 million club option on Gutierrez a few weeks ago. A strong fielder, Gutierrez may spell Michael Saunders in center against left-handers, as Gutierrez is a career .287 hitter off southpaws.
