Misdemeanor assault charges against Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov were dismissed after prosecutors say they could not prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Denver's 9News.

Authorities had said that Varlamov knocked down his girlfriend Evgenia Vavrinyuk on Oct. 30, kicking in her chest and dragging her by her hair. Varlamov was free on $5,000 bond and continued to play for the team.

Varlamov has a 16-8-1 record, .924 save percentage and 2.37 goals-against average for the Avalanche, who are 23-10-1 and sixth in the Western Conference Standings.
