Boston College and Notre Dame will play a football game at Fenway Park in 2015, the school's announced Friday.

“The City of Boston will be ready to welcome Fighting Irish and Eagles fans alike when Fenway brings this historic rivalry to one of our most beloved landmarks in 2015,” Boston mayor Thomas M. Menino said. “I'm looking forward to a memorable weekend that puts Boston, and all the great things our city has to offer, in the national spotlight.”

The famed baseball field played host to the Boston College hockey team for a "Frozen Fenway" game in 2010. It will be the first football game at Fenway since the Patriots played there in 1968.

The two teams were believed to be having talks to play their 2015 contest in Ireland. Notre Dame has increased the number of neutral site games it has played in the last few seasons.
