New Orleans Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro was taken off the field Sunday with a broken ankle, according to Pam Oliver of Fox Sports.
Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed the injury, which occurred in the first half of the Saints loss against their division rivals, the Carolina Panthers.
ProFootballTalk reports that Vaccaro's left leg was immediately placed in an air cast after his ankle became trapped under a pile. He is expected to have surgery on the ankle on Tuesday.

The rookie safety has had a big impact in his first season in the league, contributing 58 tackles in 13 games, the second most on the Saints' defense.
