Southern Methodist head coach June Jones agreed to a three-year extension on Monday that will keep him at the school through the 2017 season.

"I appreciate the opportunity to continue the work we began six years ago. There is no place I'd rather be than here at SMU," Jones said in a statement released by the school. "I am proud of the progress we have made thus far, but many goals remain unfinished, including restoring SMU football's championship tradition."

Jones, 60, just finished his sixth season with SMU. After four straight bowl appearances, the Mustangs went 5-7 in 2013, failing to become bowl eligible.
