Cardiff City fires manager Malky Mackay

Malky Mackay was let go by Cardiff City today, announced in a brief statement on the Bluebirds' website.

"The Board of Directors at Cardiff City Football Club have today relieved Malky Mackay of his duties," the statement read. "A new first team manager will be appointed and announced in due course."

Cardiff is 4-9-5 this year and in 16th place in the 20-team Premier League at the halfway point of the season. The Bluebirds have lost three of their last four league games, including a 3-0 decision against Southampton on Thursday. They've been outscored 11-2 in their last six games.

Mackay, who was hired by Cardiff in June 2011, was 54-34-37 in 125 games with the Bluebirds and led them to promotion into the Premier League after winning the Football League Championship last season.
