The NFL admitted the San Diego Chargers should have been penalized for an illegal formation in Sunday night's overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the call had been made, the Chiefs would have been able to attempt a 36-yard field goal after kicker Ryan Succop missed a 41-yard field goal. The missed field goal sent the 24-24 game into overtime, where the Chargers won it 27-24 and clinched a playoff spot.

Had the Chiefs won the game, the Pittsburgh Steelers would have taken the final playoff spot instead.
