White Sox sign reliever Scott Downs to 1-year deal

The White Sox agreed to a one-year deal with 12-year veteran pitcher Scott Downs, the team announced Thursday. The deal is worth $4 million.

The 37-year-old is 38-36 with 26 saves and a 3.48 ERA in 564 appearances (50 starts) for five different teams, including a 2.49 ERA in 68 games last season for the Angels and Braves.

Chicago has two other lefties in its bullpen, Donnie Veal and rookie Charlie Leesman.
