Houston Texans owner Bob McNair says he is open to trading out of the No. 1 overall selection in this year's NFL draft.

The Texans earned the No. 1 pick by having the league's worst record after losing their last 14 games of the year to finish at 2-14. The NFL Draft will be held from May 8 to 10 in New York City.

The team fired Gary Kubiak on Dec. 6 and hired former Penn State coach Bill O'Brien to take over.

"Maybe we'll trade down and still get a quarterback that can do the job and get an outstanding defensive player," McNair said Friday, via ESPN.com. "It's an exciting time. Everything's a moving target. Lot of different pieces."

This is third time that the team has had the No. 1 pick. In 2002, it selected quarterback David Carr and in 2006, it took defensive end Mario Williams.

"The defensive player worked out better than the offensive player," McNair said with a chuckle. "That won't lock us into anything."
