Ohio State defensive end Noah Spence was suspended after testing positive for ecstasy - the result of accidentally taking the drug at a party - Spence's family says, according to a report from ABC27 in Harrisburg, Pa.

Spence was suspended for three games, including the Orange Bowl loss to Clemson last week. He will also miss games against Navy in Baltimore and at home against Virginia Tech to start the 2014 season.

Spence's family says that he unintentionally took ecstasy when he was given a drink by people he did not know at a party.

The Big Ten Conference originally wanted to suspend Spence for a year, but the family appealed and the suspension was reduced to three games, according to ABC27's report. The family unsuccessfully appealed a second time.

The family plans to file a lawsuit against the Big Ten, according to the report.
