Suns guard Eric Bledsoe is out indefinitely after Phoenix determined he needs surgery on his right knee, ESPN's Marc Stein reported Thursday.

MAHONEY: Andrew Bynum's potential suitors

Bledsoe arrived in Phoenix through a trade last offseason, and he's helped spark the Suns' surprising start. Phoenix is 21-13 and the seventh seed in the Western Conference, thanks in part to Bledsoe's 18 points and 5.8 assists per game.

The fourth-year guard was playing a career-high 33.5 minutes per game, often in dual point guard lineups with Goran Dragic. To fill Bledsoe's minutes, Phoenix will likely turn to a combination of Ish Smith, Leandro Barbosa and rookie Archie Goodwin.
