Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo wins FIFA Ballon d'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the 2013 FIFA Ballon d'Or award at a ceremony in Zurich on Monday, according to Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl.

The other finalists for the award, which is given each year to the season's best soccer player, were three-time winner Lionel Messi of FC Barelona, and Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery. Ronaldo was considered the prohibitive favorite to win this year, having scored 66 goals in 56 games for Madrid.

The Portugese star had come in second in voting to Messi for the award in each of the previous two seasons.
