Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri announced on Twitter on Monday that he will be out eight weeks with a left knee injury.

Nasri, who has four goals and three assists in 21 games this season, said he partially ruptured ligaments when he was fouled by Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in the second half of City's 2-0 Premier League win on Sunday. The 26-year-old added that there was excess swelling in the knee.

City (15-4-2) is in first place in the Premier League with 47 points.

If the eight-week prognosis is accurate, Nasri will miss eight Premier League games, City's second-round Champions League games against Barcelona in mid-February and the League Cup final on March 2.

But Nasri was thankful he'll be out only eight weeks, as that means he should be 100 percent to play for the French national team in the World Cup.
