FC Barcelona star Xavi has been linked to Major League Soccer's New York City FC expansion club.

The Telegraph reports Manchester City, which co-owns NYC FC with the New York Yankees, is exploring signing Xavi for the club's inaugural 2015 season.

Former FC Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry plays for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS.

Xavi, 33, has played his entire career for his hometown club and is one of Spain's most honored players, winning the World Soccer Player of the Year award in 2010. He also finished third in Ballon d'Or voting in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
