Phillies, Bobby Abreu agree to minor-league contract

Bobby Abreu will attempt a comeback with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2014 after agreeing to a minor-league contract Tuesday, the team announced. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman first reported the deal.

Abreu, 39, had been considering a return to Major League Baseball after hitting well in winter ball in his native Venezuela, slugging eight home runs in just 15 games, according to a CBS report.

The contract is for only one year and would pay Abreu $800,000 if he makes the Phillies roster.

Abreu last appeared in the big leagues in 2012, appearing in 92 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had previously played for the Phillies from 1998 to 2006.
