Cleveland Browns hire Mike Pettine as head coach

Following a lengthy coaching search, the Cleveland Browns hired Mike Pettine as head coach Thursday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Pettine served as defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2013 after holding the same position with the New York Jets from 2009 to 2012. According to Football Outsiders' DVOA metric, the Bills' defense improved from 27th in 2012 to 4th in 2013.
