Georgetown center Joshua Smith will miss the remainder of the season because of an academic issue, coach John Thompson III said Friday, via Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com.

Smith, a transfer from UCLA, had missed five games earlier this month because of the same academic problem. The team went 1-4 without him in the lineup.

He was cleared to play for Georgetown in October and had two seasons of eligibility left when he came to the school.

Smith was averaging 11.5 points in 20 minutes per game for the 11-7 Hoyas, who play No. 20 Creighton on Saturday.
