Josh Brent gets 180 days in prison after intoxication manslaughter conviction

Former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was sentenced to 180 days in prison and ordered to pay a $10,000 fine on Friday after he was convicted of intoxication manslaughter on Wednesday for a car crash in Dec. 2012 that killed former college and pro teammate Jerry Brown.

Brent was given a 10-year sentence, but it was suspended, so he'll be placed on probation for that period of time, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.

Brent could have been given up to 20 years in prison. The 180 days Brent was given are mandatory for a person getting probation in Texas, Watkins reports.

Brown's family forgave Brent for his role in the incident but sued the nightclub the men were at for over-serving Brent, whose blood-alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit in Texas, according to police.
