Stan Kroenke, the owner of the St. Louis Rams, recently bought a stadium-sized plot of land near Los Angeles, according to The Los Angeles Times' Sam Farmer.

Farmer reported that the area of land "potentially could be used for an NFL stadium," fueling speculation of a possible Rams franchise return to the area. The land Kroenke purchased is a 60-acre parking lot between Hollywood Park and the Los Angeles Forum.

The Times, however, suggests that the 60-acre plot in itself is too small for a stadium to be built on, plus the additional parking that would be required. There is an adjacent 238-acre site, but it is unclear if Kroenke would be able to purchase any of that land for multiple reasons.

The Rams, however, could get out of their lease at the Edward Jones Stadium after the 2014 season, according to the report.

The Rams would also face a number of immediate hurdles should the franchise decide to leave St. Louis. First, a move would require the backing of three-quarters of the NFL's 32 owners. St. Louis has already suggested it would at least publicly fund a part of a potential new stadium — something that is unlikely in Los Angeles — so it would be more difficult to get the go-ahead from the NFL on any potential relocation.
