Five-time Olympic champion swimmer Ian Thorpe has checked into a rehab facility in Sydney to battle depression and alcohol abuse, according to Australian reports.
Thorpe reportedly was hospitalized last week after a fall in his home. He remains in the care of medical professionals. In his autobiography This Is Me, released last year, Thorpe wrote that he'd spent much of his life battling "crippling" depression. Thorpe won nine Olympic medals in his career, making him Australia's most decorated Olympian. He took home three golds and two silvers at the 2000 games, all in freestyle events, and added two more golds, another silver and a bronze in 2004.
