Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos is eyeing a return to the team on Saturday, the last game before the NHL is scheduled to shut down ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The Tampa Bay Times' Damian Cristodero reported that Stamkos is looking to return against the Detroit Red Wings. If he does, it could determine whether or not he plays for Canada's national team in the Olympics. Stamkos broke his right tibia on Nov. 11 against the Boston Bruins.

The 23-year-old Stamkos participated in the Lightning's practice on Monday, and he'll have an X-ray on Tuesday to determine how well his leg is mending.

"It felt great going up and down the ice, the lungs felt pretty good. It was nice to snap around on the power play a little bit, too. It was a big hurdle for me today. A lot of it is physical but there's a mental side and today was climbing over another hurdle."
Canada's first game in the Olympics is Feb. 13.
