Columbus Blue Jackets forward Marian Gaborik, who had been named to the Slovakian Olympic team, has officially been ruled out for the games, the club announced Thursday. Gaborik broke his collarbone against the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 21, and has not been medically cleared to participate.

Here's what Gaborik had to say, via a statement released by the Blue Jackets:

“I’m extremely disappointed that I won’t be able to play for Slovakia at the Olympic Games but understand the decision is the right one for my recovery and for the national team,” said Gaborik. “I have been lucky and proud to represent my country at two Olympic Games and other international tournaments and look forward to doing so again in the future.”

Gaborik has five goals and seven assists in 18 appearances with the Columbus this season. His fellow countrymen will open their Olympic competition against the United States hockey team on Feb. 13.
