Tony Parker to miss Spurs-Nets game with back tightness

Spurs All-Star point guard Tony Parker has been sidelined with tightness in his lower back and will miss Thursday's game against the Brooklyn Nets.

According to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express News, Parker did not join the team when the Spurs headed to Brooklyn following their double-overtime road win against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. The 31-year-old former NBA Finals MVP played just 19 minutes on the night before coming out midway through the second quarter because of his back problems. He finished with four points, five rebounds and four turnovers.

All-Star forward Tim Duncan is likely a game-time decision after playing a season-high 40 minutes against the Wizards. In typical tongue-in-cheek fashion, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich joked he will play his 37-year-old forward all 48 minutes against Brooklyn, according to McDonald:

“I'm going to play him 48 (minutes)...You're making that kind of money, you've got to play.”

The Spurs will also be without forward Kawhi Leonard, who is rehabbing a fractured finger suffered in January, and guard Manu Ginobili, who continues to deal with lingering hamstring issues. Despite the many injuries to the team this season, the Spurs are second overall in the Western Conference with a 36-13 record heading into Thursday's matchup in Brooklyn.
