Report: Jets to cut Santonio Holmes, eye Jeremy Maclin, Emmanuel Sanders

The Jets' reported plan to release Santonio Holmes has the team eyeing free agent receivers Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders, according to the New York Daily News.
The Daily News reports the Jets hope to sign one or both in its plans to improve a passing offense that ranked 31st in the NFL's 2013 statistics. The Jets' leading receivers combined for just 126 catches and 1,744 yards in 2013.

The organization is fully aware that a change is in order. Holmes isn’t part of the team's future plans. The Jets have already included the $8.25 million in savings it will get by cutting Holmes in the pool of available money for free agency, according to sources.
General manager John Idzik has about $20.2 million in cap space before Holmes’ official departure (before his $1 million roster bonus is due next month) frees up more.
Maclin, a 2009 first-round pick for the Eagles, sat out the 2013 season after tearing his ACL during a training camp practice in July. His familiarity with Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s West Coast offense is considered a plus.
