Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has been put on a limited throwing program while he battles right-shoulder inflammation, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday.
Mattingly said that the team believes it is the same problem that bothered Puig last season. He said that Puig threw too much on the first day of spring training.
"We don't think it's serious, but we need to find out," Mattingly said, according to MLB.com. He added that the move to the limited throwing program was only "precautionary."
The 23-year-old Puig stormed onto the scene last season, finishing second in National League Rookie of the Year voting while batting .319 with 19 homers and 42 RBI. He also had 11 stolen bases for the NL West-champion Dodgers.
