Dodger Stadium beating suspects plead guilty

Two men suspected of beating a Giants fan in the parking lot of Dodgers Stadium following an Opening Day game between Los Angeles and San Francisco in March 2011 pleaded guilty to the charges on Thursday, according to Linda Deutsch of the Associated Press.

The suspects are now expected to be sentenced.

The victim, a paramedic named Bryan Stow, suffered brain damage and is paralyzed because of the assault from defendants Marvin Norwood and Louie Sanchez. The sentence will come after "victim impact statements," according to Deutsch.

Stow was assaulted while walking through the parking lot with his friends, also Giants fans, following the game, according to media reports. A relative with Louie who had been with him at the game described him as "rude, loud" to Giants fans during the game. According to the testimony cited in a report from Rina Palta of Southern California's 89.3 FM, Louie had been shouting expletives and hurling peanuts and sunflower seeds in the stands. He also poured soda over a female Giants fan at one point during the game.

According to Palta's report, a website started by the Stow family posted a note about Stow's life in the wake of the beating:

“Seeing him stare at himself in the mirror was heartbreaking.Watching him touch the shunt that protrudes on the right side of his skull, the slightly sunken in left side and all the deep scars was heartbreaking.”
